Welcome Aboard!

Hi everyone,

This blog is so we can all share information related to the UM School of Business study abroad in Germany and Italy. I am very excited to be a part of this trip, and I am sure it will be a great learning experience for everyone.

My hope is that this can be a place for trip participants to connect and plan. I know a lot of you are interested in traveling around once the class is over- perhaps you can find a traveling partner through this discussion.

There are only about 13 weeks until departure- time to start planning!

If you don't have a passport yet, you should apply for one asap. You can find more information about passports here.

Please reply in the comments to this post with a little bit about yourself. Time to start connecting with your classmates and making plans!

Gratzi!

  1. Hi All,
I'm Taylor Albright. I am a junior majoring in management and I will graduate in May of 2013. I am going to both Germany and Italy.
I am really excited and a little nervous because I have never been to Europe before. Unfortunately, I have a job waiting for me in Missoula so I won't be able to spend extra time touring Europe. I do have a 23 hour layover in Paris on my return flight so that is something :-)
    Can't wait to meet everyone!

  2. Hello Everyone,

My name is Chandra Hodges and I am an MBA student. I will be participating in both the Germany and Italy experiences. I am arriving in Frankfurt on Sunday, May 27th at 10:20a and depart Rome on Sunday, June 17th at 10:35 AM. I am hopeful to go through Zurich on our way from Frankfurt to Brescia. While in Italy, I am excited to go to Venice the first weekend and hopeful we will get to go to Milan too. After the class is over, I am interested in going down to Naples / the Amalfi Coast area for two nights before going to Rome to fly home. Needless to say, I am excited about this trip and look forward to meeting and traveling with all of you!

  3. Hi!

My name is Kate Wilkins and I am a junior majoring in accounting and marketing. I am only going on the Italy portion of the trip and I plan on staying an extra 5 days to explore the country with my friend who is meeting up with me in Rome. I am also excited to go to Venice and I hope to see Milan, Verona, Naples, and Florence, too. I have yet to buy my plane ticket so if anyone has any advice that would be great! Also, I play for the women's soccer team at the university and I will need to keep up on my fitness while traveling. So, if anyone would like to be my running partner that would be great :)

  5. Hi everyone!

My name is Shanice Waldo (pronounced like "Janice") and I am in the Masters of Accountancy program here at UM. I am going to both Germany and Italy and although I am on a budget, I am hoping to visit one additional place after the Italy portion. I have never been to Europe so I am definitely looking for someone to travel a bit afterward with...maybe to Rome for a few nights? I also have not purchased my ticket as I am waiting to make plans with someone to travel afterward.

I am super excited for this opportunity and can't wait to meet everyone in person!

Feel free to reply to this post or to email me at shanice.waldo@umontana.edu to chat.

    Best,

    Shanice

  6. Hello fellow travelers!

My name is Saskia Boogman and I'm an MBA student. I'll be going on the Italy portion of the trip, as I've traveled northern Europe fairly extensively already and have commitments here in Missoula that I'm afraid I can't step away from for that long. My father is from the Netherlands and I actually have dual American/EU citizenship due to his status as a Dutch citizen. This family connection has afforded me the ability to visit Europe several times before, but I haven't been to Italy since I was very young.

I won't be able to travel much around the trip itself, but am contemplating perhaps making a sort trip to the Netherlands to visit family and friends there.

Either way, if any of you plan to visit the Netherlands let me know and perhaps I can offer some suggestions!

I have decided though, that I need to visit Europe and this is a great opportunity. I will be attending both of the classes as well. I will get to Barcelona 3 days before classes start and after classes are done I will be hanging around Torino, Berlin and meeting up my brother in Prague, where we will explore the Eastern part of Europe.
I'm really looking forward to this trip and meeting everyone!
